ANALYSIS OF ACEHNESE EFL STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN MASTERING MAIN IDEA IN READING

Abstract


This study aims to analyze the reading ability of the students in Intensive Reading Comprehension class. This study analyzes the English Department students ability in finding and understanding the main idea from the text as their learning material of reading. So later on, the data about their ability in finding the main idea will be gained. To reach the goal, random sampling is used in which 10 students from semester I in Intensive Reading Comprehension class as the object of this study. The document study helped the writer to collect the data. The random selected document was analyzed to solve the problem of the study. This study focused on the students ability in mastering main idea of the English text. So forth, the writer analyzed the questioned made by the lecturer and then got four from ten questions about main idea. From the gaining data, it is found that two students who got excellent score, while the rest (eight students) was in poor category. By this result, some positive ways need to be applied by both lecturer and students to increase students ability in mastering main idea.
